Instant stress relief with a ten minute power nap

Full hypnosis download Ten minute power nap

Most of the relaxation sessions at hypnosisdownloads.com last between 22 and 30 minutes, but sometime people just need to relax ‘on the go’ to recoup vital energy. With this in mind, I have put together ‘the ten minute power nap’ for hypnosisdownloads.com.

Napping is an activity

Many people feel secretly guilty about taking naps – especially at work. Surely, it’s the ultimate sign of laziness and slacking? But having an afternoon nap has huge potential benefits. It is not ‘lazy’ to stop to put fuel in a car during a long journey. In fact, it is essential if you want to get where you’re going.

Power napping can save your life

Technological progress confers many advantages, of course, but it is a double-edged sword in many ways. We may feel as if we can never switch off and relax. Stress may be increasingly prominent in our lives because we feel we should (or must) be ‘available’ 24/7. And millions of workers certainly don’t get anything like the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. We can even start to feel that sleep and rest are somehow a ‘waste of time’.

A study published in The Archives of Modern Medicine show that naps can be extremely good for your health (meaning, of course, that your work productivity can be greatly improved by them too!). The researchers found that the level of stress hormones – a major contributor to mental and physical illness – was greatly reduced in people who started taking a daily nap.(1)

Naps can be real life savers as they can help ward off heart disease that result from prolonged high blood pressure. People who napped randomly (varying frequency and duration) reduced their risk by of heart disease by 34%, and those who napped systematically at least three times a week enjoyed a 37% reduction in their risk of heart disease. Not to mention feeling more energized, better able to concentrate and learn and remember! (2)

The best time to nap

It seems the best time to nap is between one and three pm, when the body’s temperature has reached it’s daily peak and is dropping. So I’d recommend that people relax to the ten minute power nap early afternoon if possible, but using it any time you are feeling tired, unmotivated or unfocused will be immensely valuable.

The idea is not to fall into deep sleep, as this will tend to make you feel washed out when you finally wake up.

This is going to bring a massive health and performance advantage to busy people.

All the best

Mark

Notes

(1) The researchers concluded that those who took regular time out to relax away from their jobs enjoyed much lower risk of heart disease. Stress hormone was also greatly reduced, as were anxiety levels and even rates of depression.

(2) A sleep during work can help improve memory

Power naps – the daytime snoozes favored by Winston Churchill, Lady Thatcher and Albert Einstein – can boost your memory, scientists say.

A study has shown that falling asleep does more than refresh the brain, it also improves recall.

Dr Olaf Lahl at the University of Dusseldorf, Germany, who led the research, found that it is the process of nodding off - when recent events are replayed in the mind - that is so beneficial, rather than the sleep itself.

He asked students to memorize a list of words and tested their ability to recall them after an hour of playing the card game solitaire.

Some of the volunteers were allowed a five-minute catnap at the start of the experiment, the rest were asked to stay wide awake.

The students who took a quick sleep remembered significantly more words than those who were constantly awake.

Stop just talking about it and write that book

Full hypnosis download Write that book

How many people travel to their graves having talked about and having intended to do all kinds of stuff that they never actually did?

Most people really do intend to write a book. Why? Because it feels exciting to talk about it, to fantasize about ‘being an author’, to get attention from others for the ‘book that you are writing’. The problem comes when we exchange these premature ‘payments’ for the actual effort and discipline of writing the book itself.

Leaking intention

By getting premature attention and enjoying daydreaming too much for a book not yet written, we can ‘leak’ the actual motivation to write (rather than ‘to have written’) It may even be best to keep fantasizing to a minimum and not mention it till it is done, so as to contain the energy of your ideas.

The new hypnosis download for hypnosisdownloads.com entitled ‘Write that book’ is constructed to overcome writing procrastination and get that book written for real.

Writing a book is a wonderful opportunity to connect and ‘speak’ to people alive today, but also people yet to be born. I hope this session will truly help budding writers (and even established writers) get moving on your book.

All the best

Personal courage

Full hypnosis download Personal courage

‘Courage’ is quite an old fashioned word. We talk of ‘confidence’, or ‘motivation’, or ‘personal conviction’ and ‘overcoming fears’ but as a positive attribute, courage can mean the difference between a life well-lived and a life that’s less than it could be.

As Theodore H. White said: ‘To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can perform.’

Courage to act and be

Courage is comprised of what we do and what we are. If we are too constrained by cautiousness and timidity, we never try anything, we never take calculate risks. A ‘rewarding’ life comes about through being ‘rewarded’ for actions and efforts undertaken.

To be who you are meant to be means living with courage and conviction, not bending in the breeze of other people’s opinions, expectations or small mindedness. We can be courageous in lots of small ways. Standing by what we believe in, even it might sometimes ‘make waves’ and ‘rock the boat’ denotes courage just as surely as the more recognized or socially sanctioned forms such as running into burning buildings to save small children and the like.

Personal courage is a much needed attribute, too. Without it, we become split between ‘what we would like to be’ and ‘what we are’. Increasing your personal courage can make you feel more integrated as a person.

Hypnosis and personal courage

The latest hypnosisdownloads.com session entitled (appropriately enough) ‘personal courage’ has been created to encourage courage. The more people who make courage a habit, the better off we will all be.

Courage, mon brave! (that’s French, but I don’t think it needs translation…)

Get back on track with hypnosis

icon for podpress  Get back on track [3:57m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (394)
Full hypnosis download Get back on track

The new hypnosisdownloads.com session ‘Get back on track’ is for all of you out there who have ever found yourself derailed from a task or new healthy habit that you had promised yourself you’d stick at.

This session can be used to keep all kinds of things on track, from healthy eating, exercise, learning and even the continuation of not doing something - such as keeping on being a non-smoker, or getting back to being a non-smoker again.

The best intentions and all that

Human psychology is amazing. We can kid ourselves in all kinds of ways: ‘One won’t hurt!’ or ‘Well, it would be silly to exercise, write some of my book, etc now, wouldn’t it, so I’ll watch some TV instead for… some… err… research…’ And we blind ourselves to just how totally we are derailing our own plans and projects by convincing ourselves that what we are doing is not really going off track, we’ve just got a different priority right now, isn’t that right?

When getting off track isn’t really getting off track

The other mistake people commonly make is to feel that once off track, that’s it. They’ve failed and can’t get on track again quickly. They’ve got to start all over again!

This is like climbing a hundred steps and then stopping to rest and maybe stepping back a couple and then thinking: ‘Right, I’ve completely blown it! I’ll just walk down those 98 steps back to the bottom and start again!’ Too rigid ideas about what constitutes success and failure can actually – paradoxically – set us up for greater likelihood of failure.

Hypnosis and motivation

‘Get back on track’ uses hypnosis to motivate people who’ve suddenly ‘come off the straight and narrow’ to get back to their healthy/positive pattern quickly – and with good heart.

Onwards and upwards!

House moving stress: relaxing with moving

icon for podpress  House moving stress [4:31m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (328)
Full hypnosis download House moving stress

Moving house can be stressful, can’t it? From finding a place you actually want to live in to making an offer, finding a buyer for your house, getting a decent mortgage deal (amid the confusing ‘mortgage jungle’ out there) to getting a solicitor (who is at least occasionally there when you call) and getting a survey done that will a) show that your present house isn’t about to collapse into dust and b) shows the target property you’ve set your heart on is stable enough to stay up once you’ve got through the front door.

And the waiting! Waiting for a buyer. Waiting for your offer to be accepted. Waiting for an offer on your place. Waiting for your solicitor to ‘get back to you’. And the let downs! Your buyer may pull out at the last minute, or any buyer anywhere along the chain may run into trouble, causing a calamitous ripple effect to stop you in your tracks no matter how much money or time you’ve spent. The waiting for things to happen can be as stressful as the feeling of awful risk involved - what if it all goes wrong?

The horrendous stress of moving

Then there’s the actual moving process itself! Buying and selling is far from the end of it. The stress of packing up, moving in, getting phones, gas supply, water and electricity organized can all test your nerves to the limit.

Calming down around buying and selling property

When buying or selling real estate, a classic mistake is to become too emotionally attached, to ‘set your heart’ on a particular property too soon. To do this is just to set yourself up for possible heartache and disappointment later on.

The new hypnosis session for hypnosisdownloads.com House moving stress seeks to get you feeling much more relaxed, detached and comfortable with the whole house moving process.

And because house moving is such a widely reported stressor for so many house buyers and sellers, we think this session is going to be a huge help to all those ‘movers’ out there.

Leaving a cult

icon for podpress  Cult deconditioning [6:28m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (336)
Full hypnosis download Cult deconditioning

Many years ago I went to a lecture by Arthur Deikman MD (author of The Wrong Way Home: Uncovering the Patterns of Cult Behaviour in American Society, Beacon Press 1994). He spoke about cult behaviour and how cults operate and why it can feel so hard to leave them. Leaving a cult, even one that abuses you, can feel very hard for many people. Cults brainwash people by a mixture of:

Meeting basic human needs for:

  • a sense of meaning
  • a sense of community
  • a sense of security
  • a sense of status (or connection to someone with ultimate status)
  • a sense of purpose
  • Of course, these needs can be met in a multitude of ways outside of a cult, but the ‘message’ of the cult is that ‘only we can give you these things’ and that life outside the cult will be devoid of meaning.

Cults will prey on vulnerable people whose basic emotional and even physical needs are not adequately met in life. A cult may seem to offer to meet all these needs in one package on a plate. This can feel overwhelming if you have felt lonely, frightened, purposeless and so on. If your needs are met healthily already, then you are much less likely to fall for a cult.

    Other ways that cults brainwash

Cults have other ways to brainwash people:

  • Sleep deprivation. When we are overworked and sleep-deprived, we have less capacity to think clearly and become much more suggestible.
  • Alternating hope and fear. Fear and hope are strong emotions. All strong emotions make us more suggestible, as they ‘lock’ and narrow the attention.
  • Cutting off connections. Dissent and access to outside influence, non-cult ideas, etc is discouraged. Cult members are often prevented from seeing relatives or other ‘non-cult people’. Mixing only with like minded people is a sign that a cult is forming.
  • A central all powerful cult figure

Cults will form around a central, often charismatic cult leader. Many cult followers may begin to have doubts about the cult, but these doubts may be ‘explained away’. For example, Jim Jones, the cult leader of the People’s Temple, would explain away sexual abuse of his followers as him ‘cleansing them of their sins’.

How could I have been duped like this?

Before a cult member gathers the courage to leave the cult, they may feel like they have ‘fallen out of love with it’. The ‘good things’ it supplied are starting to be outweighed by the bad things. They become aware of their own exploitation and feel they have had enough and want independence back. But the pressure to stay can also feel overwhelming, coupled with the fear of what will happen if they leave.

And just as when we have allowed ourselves to be abused in a relationship, we may feel like a fool for having fallen for the cult’s abuses. The more we ‘put into’ something, the more we want to justify to ourselves - and others - why we are right in acting and thinking in ways which support our actions. It takes a big person to admit to themselves and others that they were wrong.

The new download for hypnosisdownloads.com Cult deconditioning provides emotional support and encouragement for those planning to or already having left a cult. It will help to boost their confidence that they have done the right thing and reassure them they can go on to have a much more meaningful and satisfying life beyond the cult.

Be more hypnotic… with hypnosis, of course!

icon for podpress  Be more hypnotic sample [4:06m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (523)
Full hypnosis download Be more hypnotic

Some people are very persuasive and good at getting you to see things in unexpected ways and really focus on – and even be changed by – what they are saying. These people, whether they know it or not, are naturally hypnotic. They may be considered charismatic, but often they just know quite naturally how to use their voice and language to focus your attention, even put you into a special kind of wide-awake hypnotic trance.

The new hypnosis download Be more hypnotic from hypnosisdownloads.com is for people who may already use hypnosis and want to become more conversationally hypnotic. So many hypnotists/hypnotherapists don’t know how to deliver hypnotic suggestions, plant hypnotic ideas and be hypnotic outside of a recognizable formal hypnotic trance induction.

A great hypnotist will make a really smooth transition between ‘normal conversation’ and hypnotic delivery. When you know how to be hypnotic, whether you’re doing therapy or talking to someone in a bar, then you become instantly more persuasive.

The new session Be more hypnotic is aimed at encouraging people who use persuasive communication and hypnosis to be more subtle, sophisticated and effective with their communication and to use hypnosis conversationally and naturally.

    Listen up!
