Things alone don’t make us happy. Connections with others, good experiences, and fulfilling work bring true fulfilment. Of course, financial security makes us feel safe in life and we can appreciate material items to an extent. But too much focus on buying the latest greatest thing can end up seriously detracting from your quality of life.
All of us at some point have probably become a bit too focused on buying the latest this or that and been pleased if we managed to get it. There is nothing wrong with this. But we are surrounded by messages from others and advertising that we exist only in terms of what we have. “I buy, therefore I am.”
‘Affluenza’ is the feeling of never having enough, of feeling dissatisfied because you don’t have as much as this person or that person, of feeling trapped in a relentless pattern of hoping the next thing you buy will make you happy. Which it does for a short while – but never as much as that ‘must have item’ seems to promise.
Affluence and happiness
Research into happiness has found that once you have enough then having more doesn’t make you happier. (1) The new session for Hypnosisdownloads.com called Cure Affluenza is designed to soothe away too much desire for ‘stuff’.
Far better ways of finding happiness are things like having a sense of purpose and making sure you are creatively stimulated, having healthy friendships and relationships, and how optimistic your thinking style is. This session seeks to help put greed for material things back into it’s proper perspective. Over-materialism is a trap that stops us truly living.

Note
(1) Professor Robert Lane of Yale University in America has found that all the statistical data on happiness and income levels points to the same conclusion: that once people are above the poverty-line and can meet their basic needs for food and shelter, then income level stops having any correlation with a person’s happiness. A multi-millionaire or a lottery winner is just as likely to be happy or unhappy as a person in a low income job who only has enough for the bare essentials.
