People like positive people. Being positive makes life more fun, makes for more interesting, adventurous and energetic people, and gives us resilience to help us deal with life’s set backs.
But many of us assume you are either positive or you are not. Like the color of your eyes, we think, it is decided at birth and you then have to live with your pessimism or optimism. But in truth positivity can be learned (and so can pessimism).
Positive people tend to experience less depression in their lives, but get this: according to research at the University of Texas, (1) the more positive older people are about life, the slower their bodies are to show the signs of aging. Positivity literally keeps you younger! So if you’ve noticed yourself being a little overly pessimistic recently, and you’d like to change your attitude, what can you do?
Negative thinkers tend to see setbacks as permanent and pervasive, affecting whole swathes of their life rather than just parts of it. So the pessimist may fail a test and feel: “My whole life is ruined; nothing goes right!” In contrast, the positive thinker is more likely to perceive a setback as temporary and specific and something that can be changed.
The new Positive Attitude session for hypnosisdownloads.com focuses on such things as how to think positively and how to hold positivity in your body so that you begin to feel positive in your head. Right now we need more positive and proactive people.

(1) The University of Texas found people with an upbeat view of life were less likely than pessimists to show signs of frailty. Their work is published in the journal Psychology and Aging.
