‘Courage’ is quite an old fashioned word. We talk of ‘confidence’, or ‘motivation’, or ‘personal conviction’ and ‘overcoming fears’ but as a positive attribute, courage can mean the difference between a life well-lived and a life that’s less than it could be.
As Theodore H. White said: ‘To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can perform.’
Courage to act and be
Courage is comprised of what we do and what we are. If we are too constrained by cautiousness and timidity, we never try anything, we never take calculate risks. A ‘rewarding’ life comes about through being ‘rewarded’ for actions and efforts undertaken.
To be who you are meant to be means living with courage and conviction, not bending in the breeze of other people’s opinions, expectations or small mindedness. We can be courageous in lots of small ways. Standing by what we believe in, even it might sometimes ‘make waves’ and ‘rock the boat’ denotes courage just as surely as the more recognized or socially sanctioned forms such as running into burning buildings to save small children and the like.
Personal courage is a much needed attribute, too. Without it, we become split between ‘what we would like to be’ and ‘what we are’. Increasing your personal courage can make you feel more integrated as a person.
Hypnosis and personal courage
The latest hypnosisdownloads.com session entitled (appropriately enough) ‘personal courage’ has been created to encourage courage. The more people who make courage a habit, the better off we will all be.
Courage, mon brave! (that’s French, but I don’t think it needs translation…)
